Life is crazy and hectic for most of us. We’re surrounded with personal and family obligations, jobs, fitness programs, virtual mountains of email, not to mention videogames, TV, smartphones, social networking, and millions of things to check out on the web.

With all those distractions, how does an aspiring author find time to write?
And when you do find the time, how do you make the most of it?

Award-winning and #1 international bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson is one of the most prolific authors in the business. He has published over 125 novels—an average of five novels a year, every year, for the past quarter century. Anderson has taught numerous writing seminars and lectured on productivity, and here he shares his tips on how to find the time to write, and how to make the most of that time.

I’ve heard Kevin J. Anderson give a panel speech about productivity on a couple of occasions. This book expands on his chat to give a succinct and reachable goal for the writer struggling to get something written.

Unlike many “how to” guides, Mr. Anderson gives a solid background and gives the reader the tools necessary to get productive. In particular, Section 2 gives an understanding on the math behind productivity. Section 3, which is my favorite part of this book, gives eleven tips you can put in place immediately to ramp up your writing.

My only quibble would be the sensationalism of the name of the book and series (Million Dollar Writing). You’re most likely not going to make millions, but it has happened. Buy a lottery ticket to double your chances. If you want to make enough money to take your significant other out to dinner (or pay the mortgage or get a new car), you have to write. If you have a computer full of stories, they’re not doing you any good. Take Kevin’s advice, which is straightforward and doable, and get your darlings off of your hard drive and into the market.

Highly recommended title, enough that I gave another copy to a friend as a gift.
