It’s been a good year for first-run conventions.
Malcon 1 in Denver was last weekend. This con is a catch-all for the oddball geekdom fans that don’t have their own dedicated event (with the exception of Whovians.)
So, for a weekend, the Sheraton at the Denver Tech Center was home to fans from Doctor Who, Firefly and Browncoats, Ponies, Pirates, and more.
I ended up on a couple of panels thanks to Quincy Allen. I had plans for traveling to New Jersey for the weekend, but those plans fell apart. I was able to discuss pirates and airships, plus turning your hobby into a business. Because the audience was so diverse, I enjoyed breaking out of the “authors only” mold.
I’m looking forward to next year. I think I bought enough Dryad Tea to last me until then.
